Why clickable links matter
A PDF brochure, resume, catalogue or invoice often mentions a website, email address or payment page, but if it is just printed text, readers must type it by hand. Clickable areas let readers open the page or start an email with one tap, which increases responses and payments.
How it works
Type a link that starts with https://, http:// or mailto:, then drag over the area of the page that should be clickable — usually over existing text or a button graphic. You can also add an area precisely with the keyboard controls. Each area you mark uses the link that was typed when you marked it, so different areas can open different links.
What the reader sees
The link area is invisible: it adds no border or colour, so the page design stays exactly the same. When readers move the mouse over the area, the cursor changes to a hand; on phones, tapping the area opens the link.
Common problems and how to fix them
“Use a complete https://, http:// or mailto: link”: type the full address, including https://. Rotated pages are refused: set them upright with Rotate PDF first. The link does not work in one app: some simple viewers ignore links — test in a browser or Adobe Reader.
Good habits
Make link areas slightly larger than the text for easy tapping on phones, test every link after downloading, and use your own trusted website addresses only.
