    About Remove PDF Annotations

When is it useful? Remove PDF Annotations cleans a reviewed document: it deletes comments, sticky notes, highlights, drawings and stamps so you can share or print a clean final copy.

Good to know: clickable links and form fields are kept, so the document still works. Only the review marks added as annotations are removed — text and pictures that are part of the page itself stay. The result note tells you how many annotations were removed.

Example: a contract went back and forth with many yellow highlights and sticky-note comments. Before sending the final version for signing, remove all annotations so the other side receives a clean document, while the clickable links and form fields keep working.

    Tips for Better Results

    • Keep a copy with comments if you may need the review history.
    • To remove only links, use Remove Only PDF Links instead.
    • Flatten forms first if you want answers to stay but fields to lock.

    Guide

Remove PDF Annotations: a complete guide

    What annotations are

Annotations are review marks added on top of PDF pages: sticky notes, comments, highlights, underlines, strike-throughs, freehand drawings, stamps and shapes. They are useful while reviewing, but a final document sent to a client, court or customer should usually be clean.

What happens when you remove them

Every annotation on every page is removed, except two kinds that the document needs to work: clickable links and form fields stay. The page content underneath — text, pictures and drawings that are part of the page — is untouched. The result note tells you how many annotations were removed.

    What is not an annotation

Some marks look like comments but are part of the page itself, for example highlights or stamps that were printed into a scan, or a document saved after “flattening” comments. Those cannot be removed by this tool; use Edit PDF white-out or Redact PDF for them.

Common problems and how to fix them

“No comments, highlights or notes were found”: the marks are part of the page content, not annotations. You only wanted to remove links: use Remove Only PDF Links. A reviewer still needs the comments: keep a commented copy.

    Good habits

Save a copy with comments as a review record, remove annotations only from the final version, and check every page before sending.
