What PDF metadata is
Every PDF can carry hidden document details: title, author, subject, keywords, the program that created it, and creation and modification dates. Browsers show the title in the tab, search engines may display it in results, and anyone can read the details in the file properties.
How it works
Type the new title, author, subject or keywords (separate keywords with commas) — only the fields you fill are changed. Tick “Remove all existing details” to delete the old information first, including the creating program, dates and extra XMP metadata. The pages themselves are not changed at all.
Why it matters
A clear title makes a published PDF look professional in browser tabs and search results. Removing old details protects privacy: author fields often contain a full name, company name or computer user name, and dates can reveal when a document was really prepared.
Common problems and how to fix them
“Fill in at least one detail”: enter a value or tick the remove option. “Password-protected”: unlock the PDF first. The old title still shows in a viewer: some viewers cache information — close and reopen the file.
Good habits
Use descriptive titles with your brand name for public PDFs, clean metadata before publishing documents online, and check the result with PDF File Information.
