    About Extract ZIP

When is it useful? Extract ZIP opens a .zip archive in your browser — including phones and school or office computers where you cannot install apps — and lets you download the files inside one by one.

Good to know: up to 200 files can be extracted from one archive. Archives with unsafe paths are refused, files are never opened or run, and password-protected (encrypted) and ZIP64 archives are not supported. You can download each file separately or as a repacked ZIP.

    Tips for Better Results

    • Only open ZIP files from people and websites you trust.
    • For RAR or 7Z archives, a desktop program such as 7-Zip is needed.
    • Large archives take longer on phones because everything happens on your device.

    Guide

    Extract ZIP: a complete guide

When you need to unzip without an app

School and office computers often block software installation, and some phones and Chromebooks handle ZIP files awkwardly. Extract ZIP opens archives directly in your browser and lets you save the files inside.

    How it works

Choose a .zip file. The list of files inside is read on your device, and you can download each file separately or download them all again as one repacked ZIP. Up to 200 files can be extracted from one archive, and the files are never opened or run.

    Built-in safety checks

Archives with dangerous paths — files trying to escape their folder or use absolute paths — are refused. Size limits protect your browser from “zip bombs” that expand to huge sizes. Password-protected (encrypted) archives and very large ZIP64 archives are not supported.

Common problems and how to fix them

“Encrypted”: the archive needs a password — use 7-Zip, WinRAR or your computer's built-in extractor. RAR or 7Z files: these are different formats and need a desktop program such as 7-Zip. More than 200 files: extract on a computer with built-in tools. Strange file names: the archive was made on a system using a different character set.

    Good habits

Only open archives from people and sites you trust, scan unknown files with antivirus software before opening them, and keep the original ZIP until you have the files you need.
