Why convert WEBP images
Many websites now serve pictures as WEBP because the files are small and load fast. When you save such a picture, you get a .webp file that older Windows photo viewers, some editors, printers, upload forms and messaging apps may not open. JPG works almost everywhere.
What happens when you convert
Each WEBP file is opened in your browser and saved as a JPG. Transparent parts become white because JPG cannot store transparency. Set the Quality slider (40–100, default 92) to control size and sharpness, and optionally type a width in pixels to make large images smaller — pictures are never enlarged. Animated WEBP files become a still JPG of the first frame.
Which files work best
Photos and illustrations convert well. Graphics with transparent backgrounds, such as logos and stickers, will get a white background; for those, Image to PNG keeps the transparency instead.
Common problems and how to fix them
The file will not open: some downloads named .webp are actually other formats or damaged; try saving the image again. The JPG looks blurrier than expected: the WEBP was already compressed; raise the quality to 95, but lost detail cannot return. You need many images converted: add them all at once and download a single ZIP, or each file on its own.
Good habits
Only use images you have the right to use, keep the original file, and choose PNG instead of JPG whenever transparency matters.
