Why convert Markdown
Markdown files are easy to write but look like plain text with symbols to people who do not use Markdown editors. Converting to PDF gives readers a properly formatted document with real headings, lists and tables that they can read on most devices or print.
What happens when you convert
The Markdown is turned into formatted text using a standard Markdown engine: # headings, **bold**, *italic*, bullet and numbered lists, tables, block quotes, links and code blocks are formatted. The document is laid out on A4 pages and each page is saved into the PDF as a picture, so the text is not selectable and links are not clickable.
Pictures and safety
For your privacy and security, nothing is fetched from the internet during conversion. Pictures referenced by web links or by file paths on your computer will not appear — only pictures embedded directly in the Markdown as data. Any HTML inside the Markdown is cleaned of scripts.
Common problems and how to fix them
A table shows as plain lines: make sure it has a header row and a separator line such as | --- | --- |. Headings show # signs: put a space after the # symbols. Code looks cramped: long code lines wrap; shorten them or use smaller blocks.
Good habits
Preview the Markdown in an editor first, use clear heading levels, and keep the .md file as your source for future edits.
