What PDF/A is
PDF/A is an ISO standard version of PDF designed for long-term archiving. A PDF/A file must contain everything needed to display it — fonts, colours, pictures — and must not depend on outside resources, scripts or encryption, so that it can still be opened exactly the same way decades from now. Courts, government archives, universities and some tax and company portals ask for PDF/A.
What this tool does
Each page is rendered at 150 DPI and placed into a new PDF that is prepared to follow the PDF/A-2b level, with the required archive information added. Up to 100 pages are processed. Because pages become images, the original selectable text, links, comments, attachments and form fields are removed.
An honest limitation
This tool is experimental. Its output has not been certified by an independent PDF/A validator, so we do not promise that every file will pass every validator. If an office strictly requires PDF/A, check the downloaded file with a free validator such as veraPDF before submitting it.
Better routes when you have the source
If you still have the original Word or LibreOffice document, export PDF/A directly: in Word choose Save As → PDF → Options → PDF/A compliant; in LibreOffice choose File → Export as PDF → Archive (PDF/A). These keep selectable text and are usually the best result.
Good habits
Read the archive's exact rules, keep your original PDF, and store the validation report together with the archived file when compliance matters.
