Why add empty pages
Blank pages give room for handwritten notes or signatures, separate chapters in printed documents, provide pages for stamps or office use, and fix the layout for double-sided printing so each chapter starts on a right-hand page.
How it works
Type after which pages the blank pages should go, separated by commas — for example 2, 5 — and use 0 to add pages before the first page. Choose how many blank pages to add at each place. Each new page takes the size and orientation of the neighbouring page, so it fits in naturally. Existing pages are not changed.
Planning for double-sided printing
In a printed book, odd pages are on the right. If a chapter ends on an odd page, the next chapter would start on the back of that sheet; inserting one blank page after it moves the next chapter to a new right-hand page.
Common problems and how to fix them
A blank page appears in the wrong place: page numbers refer to the original document — check them in your viewer. “Outside this document”: the number is larger than the page count. Page numbers printed on the pages are now off: add numbering after inserting with Add Page Numbers.
Good habits
Insert blank pages before numbering, check the result in two-page view in your viewer, and keep the original file.
