Why check a PDF before using it
Upload portals set rules on size and pages, printers need to know the paper size, and you may need to know whether a document is a scan or who created it. Opening a PDF does not show these facts clearly; this tool lists them in one place.
What you see
The report shows the file name, file size, number of pages, page size in millimetres with the paper name (such as A4 or Letter) and orientation, and whether pages have different sizes. It also lists the PDF version, title, author, subject, keywords, creating program, producer, creation and modification dates, whether the PDF has form fields, and whether it has selectable text. A text copy of the report is downloaded too.
How to use the answers
“Selectable text: No” means the PDF is probably a scan — use OCR PDF to make it searchable. A Letter page size in an A4 country means printing may cut edges — use Resize PDF Pages. Unexpected author or creator details can be cleaned with Edit PDF Metadata.
Common problems and how to fix them
Many fields show —: the PDF simply contains no such information, which is common. The text check says No for a partly scanned file: only the first 50 pages are checked for text. The file will not open: it may be damaged or password-protected.
Good habits
Check information before uploading to strict portals, keep the downloaded report with important documents, and use the facts to choose the right next tool.
